Cabbage Soup Diet
If you have a special occasion coming up, or you simply need to lose weight fast, the Cabbage Soup Diet may be just what you're looking for.
Although not suitable for long-term weight loss, the Cabbage Soup Diet is a low-fat, high-fiber diet that will help you get into shape fast before you embark on a more moderate long-term eating plan.
The Cabbage Soup Diet is based on a fat-burning soup that contains negligible calories. The more soup you eat the more weight you should lose, but do not eat soup only or you will become malnourished.
While on this diet eat as much cabbage soup as you desire for seven days and lose 10 to 15 pounds. The recipe varies slightly, but basically includes a variety of low-calorie vegetables such as cabbage, onions and tomatoes, flavored with bouillon, onion soup mix and tomato juice. Each day of the seven-day program has specific foods that must be eaten, including potatoes, fruit juice, many vegetables, and on one day, beef.
Seven Keys to Success

7 Day Diet Plan
- Day 1: Eat only fruit and as much soup as you like. Drink unsweetened tea, black coffee, cranberry juice and water.
- Day 2: Eat raw and cooked vegetables (avoid peas, sweetcorn, dry beans): at dinner reward yourself with a large baked potato and butter, and eat as much soup as you like, but no fruit.
- Day 3: Mix days 1 and 2, eat as much fruit, vegetables and soup as you like but no baked potato.
- Day 4: Eat as many as eight bananas, skimmed milk and as much soup as you want.
- Day 5: You may have 300-500g (10-20oz) beef (or chicken or fish) and a large tin or six fresh tomatoes. Try to drink 6-8 glasses of water and be sure to eat the soup at least once.
- Day 6: Eat 2-3 beef steaks with salad or fresh vegetables (no baked potato) and soup at least once.
- Day 7: Brown rice, fresh vegetables and unsweetened fruit juice, eat as much as you like, plus soup at least once.
Cabbage Soup Recipe
3 large onions
1 large green pepper
1 head celery
Half a dark green cabbage
Tin of chopped tomatoes
1 pack onion soup mix
3 vegetable stock cubes
Cut all vegetables into small pieces.
Place in a saucepan with the rest of ingredients, cover with water, season and simmer until vegetables are soft.
Blend if preferred.
Pros of the Diet Soup
You'll lose weight quickly and can eat as much as you want of the prescribed foods. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn't be adhered to for longer), it provides a great "kick-start" for a more moderate diet.
Cons of the Diet Soup Some people find the soup bland.
Many people who have tried this diet report feeling light-headed and weak, and notice a decrease in ability to concentrate. The diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue for an extended period of time.
If the diet is correctly followed it should cleanse your system of impurities and give you a sense of well-being with weight loss. Avoid alcohol, bread and carbonated drinks. As with any other diet care is required and you should consult your doctor if you have any health concerns.
